New News ! Verizon Pioneers Thomas Sherwin Chapter Fundraiser ! On Friday, April 20, 2012 The Thomas Sherwin chapter had a fundraiser at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. The Entertainment was Jim Plunkett who has entertained new englanders for over 40yrs! Add the buffet meal, and lots of raffles it was indeed a great night ! ! Special Needs Day - On July 16, Thomas Sherwin volunteers held their annual Special Needs Event for the physically and mentally challenged at Triangle, Inc. in Malden, MA. Forty-three Pioneer volunteers welcomed more than 300 people including 164 clients and 102 staff/guardians. At this free event, each client received a goodie bag, lunch and ice cream in addition to enjoying bingo, a magician, face painting, dancing with music provided by a DJ, and other fun activities. Triangle, Inc. empowers people with disabilities and their families to enjoy rich, fulfilling lives and is committed to helping the world realize that all people have abilities. Also, the Thomas Sherwin Chapter awarded three $500 scholarships during the Special Needs Event.

Caring for our Veterans – The Sherwin Pioneers celebrated the start of its 100th anniversary by partnering with several organizations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to help veterans and the homeless. Learn more by viewing Sherwin’s YouTube post.

Sherwin Chapter’s Day of Caring event that was held at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, in Boston, MA, March 26. Fourteen volunteers helped serve more than 200 veterans. The meal consisted of sirloin steak, steak fries, corn on the cob, salad, rolls, soda and devil’s food cake. Before the event, the Chapter presented the Center with a 50-inch plasma TV and 350 pairs of socks, T-shirts, briefs and ditty bags that consisted of 10 different personal care items.“It was an honor serving the veterans! They loved the 50″ television we delivered and all of them so appreciated the toiletries we had for them all!” said Gail Fleurent, member of the Sherwin Chapter.
